There seems to be a lot of buzz in the air about this new year. I know time is linear, or not real or whatever, but I love using the structure of a year to reflect.
You don’t care about my goals, and I don’t really care about yours either (although I wish you well…) But I felt so inspired to write about something I cannot stop thinking about.
When I was drowning in holiday orders, my mom came over and helped me with absolutely everything. She wouldn’t accept a penny. She worked 50-hour work weeks for me. My dad came over and helped with packages, and later came over and did chores I couldn’t do (I’m just a girl!) like fixing my toilet handle and hanging my art. Later they came over and simply helped me disassemble a bookcase.
I’m not usually this needy or dependent on them. They knew I was slowly crumbling under pressure and about to crack. Some might say I did crack (Multiple times. Ask Nick) and they insisted on showing up for me and taking care of me.
I wouldn’t be writing about this publicly because I know the holiday season can be rough, and having supportive healthy parents who live 20 minutes away might be the highest level of nepotism.
But I can’t help but feel deeply inspired by Jeff & Nicole,
(notice how my dad is wearing a cap from my brand in the photo above, as the emotional cherry on top)
I desperately want to embody this energy and be able to give it back to those around me. Yes, I wrote a list of goals and ambitions, but more than anything in 2024 I want to think about how I can be the best daughter, sister, girlfriend, friend, and even stranger.
Let’s make it a little less vague and more “Chloe”, we’ll call this newsletter: The art of being there for someone. The art of helping. The art of checking in. The art of showing up.
Because here’s the thing, it is an art. And we’re all artists ;)
P.S. I’m back and for good this time, thanks for sticking around!
As a mom 3 bigs, there is nothing that I love more than helping out when my kids need me. It is even better when you are helping out so they can work on their passion. I bet your parents enjoyed the time as much as your appreciated it :)
This is so sweet, we are nothing without the support of our friends and family!
