This newsletter is so Monday appropriate and I love that.
For some reason I find myself being resistant to effort. It’s different than being outright lazy, hear me out.
A resistant to effort feels like a way to stay safe or to avoid using my brain. I’ve talked about how brushing my teeth used to be torture for me, no matter how good it felt after. I only want to work out if it’s easy for me to want to, forgetting that before ease comes effort.
There’s a difference between checking off the to-do’s and taking the extra step you know?
I’ve been throwing myself into experiences that require extra effort, to get in the habit of doing them with ease. My favorite new thing is to make my own popcorn (groundbreaking, I know) but something about pouring the avocado oil in the pan myself and watching the kernels explode and then covering them with salt myself feels so wholesome and grounded, instead of devouring a bag of skinny pop without a breath in between each bite (and it’s way cheaper)
I noticed that working from home was kinda ruining my personal style. I wasn’t getting dressed, duh, but it was something else. Wearing an outfit in the world, seeing how it looks in the reflection of glass, seeing how other people perceive it, seeing what other people wear and how they move in the world— THAT’S STYLE!
I’ve been getting dressed and leaving the house. Walking my angelic dog around the block a bit in an outfit, instead of sweats. You ever wear penny loafers on a long walk? Surprise, they do great. But wear socks.
In an effort to avoid buying dental insurance, I’ve been so diligent in my flossing that I added a special mouthwash/oil pulling method on top of it.
I own a business and haven’t really been making an effort to promote it in the past few years. Hi, I’m Chloe and I own a brand called Sobriquet. If anything, I make incredible phone cases.
Here’s the thing, the trick, the biggest aid in the journey of making effort…. get off your phone. Make some new space and energy. So thanks for reading this, but put it down. Maybe share with a friend or even post on social media about it. Then put it down and move onto the next ;)
Xx Chloe
more efforts: Making the bed every morning, making the appointments you are avoiding, cleaning up before bed every night (I have a great playlist for this, the closing shift)
I needed to read this today. Effort is public enemy number one in my life right now.
this absolutely resonated with me - I feel like my style has gone down the drain since working from home and I don’t know how to get out of the rut :(
