It’s that time again kids. My birthday list of life lessons. An issue I write every year! I think this is my fourth issue….. What! I turned 27 If you know me you know:
I hate giving “advice” but I love sharing what I’ve learned, or giving myself a pep talk, but in front of you guys.
I LOVE BIRTHDAY REFLECTIONS/BIRTHDAYS IN GENERAL
1 Never underestimate the power of a 21-minute nap
2 Every time you go to the grocery store get something thrilling and overpriced
3 Someone’s doom is not your destiny. Don’t look for proof of failure. Look for proof of “success”— whatever that means for you. Or, even better, follow what lights you up and trust in the journey that follows.
4 Coffee is just best with dairy (half and half)
5 Gatekeeping is ok (I’m talking a favorite lipstick, perfume, where you got your top— not important resources you could use to build someone up)
6 Sometimes making time for 2 dinners, drinks, or activities with friends is more effective than any biohacking or therapy when trying to move past something occupying your mind/feel less anxious in general.
7 When I was younger I scoffed at anyone who would choose vanilla ice cream over chocolate, birthday cake, etc. But now there is nothing better than a simple, fresh, vanilla bean ice cream.
8 Having a 9-5 job can be incredibly freeing.
9 You don’t have to be an entrepreneur to live a valuable and beautiful life
10 Mini heels and mules are the easiest things to thrift
11 The more I walk, the better I feel
12 “Balance” may be almost impossible to achieve, but if you can diversify your day, create some movement, and make time to have fun, you’ll feel a lot better.
13 Apparently life isn’t fair? My brain is constantly keeping score, making sure everything is evenly distributed in all my relationships and exchanges. No matter how much I try to be loving accepting patient and forgiving to a stranger they might not give it back. (Ask me about the time I gifted my neighbor a candle and he threatened to sue me)
14 The only coffee worth sipping at Starbucks is the cold brew
15 Nordstrom mirrors are not flattering. Thrift store mirrors are. Just because something is $3 doesn’t mean you should buy it.
16 Being single is amazing!
17 Being in a relationship is amazing!
18 You can get hormonal acne at any age <3
19 The best way to energize yourself is to either accomplish a task you’ve been putting off or start your day off with something you love.
20 The secret to a pleasant day is not looking at your phone the first two hours upon waking (THIS DOESN’T MEAN I AM A PRO AT IT)
21 Olives are actually pretty good
22 If you have a partner/lover/roommate (someone you live with) and they keep doing something that bugs you (leaving drawers open, not making the bed, not putting shoes away) and it takes less than 3 minutes, or even 5, just do it yourself. It’s so much better for your inner peace— in my personal experience (living with a boy for 4 years)
23 Stanley cups are worth it <3
24 Avoid the news headlines if you can
25 I change my mind so much. And I think that’s a good thing!
26 Drink a cup of water with every cup of coffee and you won’t get anxious (IM NOT A DOCTOR)
27 Life is so short. Call someone you love every day!
it was my birthday recently (24!) so happy birthday fellow gemini ! but these all were the perfect reminders as i start off a new year so thank you <3
21 is my lucky number and #21 makes me so proud of you.
