I love getting dressed. I made a whole coloring book about it, literally called, Let’s Get Dressed. I’ve always loved expressing myself through my style and resonate deeply with the idea that you have a better day when you like your outfit.
That being said,
Working from home has both saved my life and muted my personal style. I remember when I went into the office every day I got to explore my creativity daily. It sometimes meant I came up with the worst outfits I have ever seen. It often meant I got to wear the pieces I purchase in my closet. I got to actually recreate and pull inspiration from my Pinterest boards and the world around me. I got to be myself in this world!
But here’s the thing, I love the flexibility, comfort, and ease of working at home. I love being home, I just got my dream place! I love having lunch with my boyfriend or even taking Kaya fetch on my lunch break. I love that I can log in on time at 9 am with no commute, it gives you time to have an actual morning.
But damn it I miss getting dressed. I miss seeing what other humans decided to wear that day. I spend hours on Pinterest every week and love how my style is evolving. But I only ever express it at brunch every Sunday and I am so sick of it.
Going to coffee shops once or twice a week has helped, but I can’t help but wear sweats when I am working at home. It is more comfortable, admit it! But today I was making a tik tok about an outfit I was copying from someone (with credit and respectfully) and kept the outfit on all day while I worked.
Let me tell ya— this girl was on fire. I was time blocking, being direct, feeling creative, feeling motivated, and the vibes were so high I wonder if they somehow cured my ongoing dermatitis flare-up (let me believe this, haters)
I recently had a 15-minute video call with an entrepreneur and creative I really admire. And she was glowing, she was dressed, she was alert, sitting at her designated work desk. And I could tell she was really showing up. I was pulling a classic pandemic meme: pajama pant bottom, nice button-up on the top look, and I honestly felt as disheveled as I looked.
I know this sounds vain, but luckily you guys get me, you know what I’m saying. The craziest thing about life is how it ebbs and flows. Maybe some of you are feeling like you put way too much work into how you look when you’re not leaving the house and you want to explore 24 hours without concealer or force yourself to let loose and wear some sweats around the house. We all have to switch it from time to time!
And I’m aware that this whole journey is completely unoriginal. I think most of us relate, have learned this, and have already read the same writing about it. But here’s the thing, are any of my newsletters that original? They’re really just friendly reminders.
You have the answers besties! xx
